Collected millions of plastic bottles. Development of a network of fandomats in Russia

Fandomats, machines for collecting consumer packaging from the population for further processing, are widespread abroad, where the percentage of sorted recyclables is reintroduced into the production cycle of the economy is over 75%. . In Russia, this indicator barely reaches 10%.

Use of the fandomat is rewarded by issuing funds or points/discounts on goods and services of project partners.

The machines are capable of accepting the following types of packaging: PET bottles, aluminum cans and household chemical bottles. Recycled PET is made into polyester fibers, which are used to insulate clothing, sleeping bags, plush toys. Recycled plastics also produce materials such as organza, nylon, taffeta, which are actively used in the modern textile industry. For example, it takes around 8 bottles to make a new T-shirt and around 15 bottles to make the stuffing for a winter jacket. Building materials, sports equipment and furniture are also made from recycled plastic. & Nbsp;

Separate collection in Russia

In Russia, the theme of separate collection is growing in popularity. Collection points for secondary raw materials are organized in almost all regions. However, the problem of the underutilization of existing processing companies remains. This is the task the fandomat faces, creating a constant flow of high quality recyclable materials. The project of creating a large network of such machines throughout the country is actively being developed by the Russian environmental operator.

At the same time, companies producing household equipment for automated curbside recycling are already actively developing in the market. In August 2021, the Ecoplatform company, which released the first Russian fandomat in 2019, announced the collection of the fifth million packaging units. These are 120 tonnes of plastic bottles and 23 tonnes of aluminum cans.
