The substance piperine, found in black pepper, can block the coronavirus. This conclusion was drawn by scientists from the Institute of Cytology of the Russian Academy of Sciences and St. Pastor.
Researchers have studied 20 substances of plant origin that can block the fusion of lipid membranes & nbsp; human cells and the coronavirus. Piperine turned out to be the most effective. Scientists tested the substance on the Wuhan strain of coronavirus and monkey cells.
Olga Ostroumova, chief researcher at the Center Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, one of the authors of the scientific works, in an interview with the newspaper Vedomosti . explained that piperine modifies the properties of the viral lipid membrane. As a result, this membrane is not able to fuse with the membranes of human cells and the virus cannot enter the cells.
Ostroumova also added that the substances studied in the future may become the basis for the creation of effective dietary supplements for the prevention of coronavirus.
The fact that piperine is able to protect the body against infection with the coronavirus has also been previously reported by TV presenter Elena Malysheva. According to her, this substance interacts with the SARS-Cov-2 protein to cause the virus to die. She added that most of the piperine is not found in black pepper, but in white pepper.
