The Ministry of Interior of the Russian Federation has prepared mandatory technical parameters for weapons that can be used for self-defense. The corresponding draft document has been published on the regulatory proposal portal.
What type of weapon does the document refer to?
The document lists the types of limited firearms that can be used for self-defense. This is a pistol, revolver and barrelless firearm of domestic production.
What technical parameters must be respected in the case of self-defense weapons?
If the document passes, Russians will have to follow the rules when buying and using weapons in self-defense. These weapons must not:
- be converted from firearms or made from their essential parts;
- have a design that allows, as a result of reversible modifications, to use its barrel, breech, drum, frame, receiver or breech box to replace the corresponding parts of it. A firearm for its repair, modification and restoration of its damaging properties;
- have a design that allows you to detach the barrel from the body part or bolt (the fastening should be made with steel pins, which cannot be removed without irreversible modifications);
- have a design that allows you to shoot cartridges from guns.
Self-defense weapons must have the following characteristics:
- has protruding elements in the barrel bore (if any) that do not allow, without irreversible changes in its design, to ensure the possibility of firing with metal projectiles, resulting in specific kinetic energy greater than 0.5 J/mm2 is reported to them;
- leaves on used cartridges – traces of weapons containing a set of characteristics sufficient to identify the weapon;
- has an individual marking number on the barrel, breech, drum and body part, applied so as not to allow their destruction without mechanical treatment. The depth of the individual number should be at least 0.2mm.
What requirements are proposed for mechanical sprayers?
The draft stipulates that mechanical sprays, aerosols and other devices should not have a shape imitating military small arms … In addition, these elements should have bright colors of parts and mechanisms individual.
What requirements can become mandatory for stun guns?
Home-produced electroshock devices and spark gaps cannot have a shape that mimics small arms in combat. They will need to be marked with an individual number on the metal parts of the product, as well as in the bright colors of the individual parts and mechanisms.
