The Sovetsky District Court of Tomsk sentenced the city's mayor Ivan Klein to 2 years in a colony of the general regime, reports TASS.
Klein has been convicted in a case of abuse of power and illegal trade. He will serve his sentence in a general regime colony.
Previously, it was reported that Klein had twice abused his official powers. The prosecutor asked the court to find the mayor guilty of three counts and to sentence him to five years in prison in a general regime settlement. Lawyers for the accused have insisted on his innocence.
Klein was arrested on November 13 of last year. Two criminal cases have been opened against him.
