At different times, around 250 species of birds can be seen in the capital. More than half of them fly to warmer regions when the cold sets in. There are around 90 species of birds left for the winter, including the great tit, field and house sparrows, siskins, jays, magpies, rock pigeons, woodpeckers and others. In winter, they prefer to congregate in groups.
Some species of waterfowl, such as mallards, are found not to take flight. They live in bodies of water that do not freeze.
Most often birds do not need to feed, remind experts from Mospriroda. Gaining food unnecessarily can weaken instincts and make birds dependent on humans. This is cumbersome due to the fact that animals can completely refuse natural food. Feeding birds should only be started in severe frosts.
