The United States will send fighter jets and helicopters to strengthen NATO in Europe

The United States will send eight new F-35 fighter jets and three dozen AH-64 attack helicopters to reinforce NATO's eastern flank amid tensions around Ukraine, reports RIA Novosti.

About the Pentagon, spokesman John Kirby said this Wednesday during a briefing.

“We are talking about the transfer of up to eight F-35 fighters from Germany to several operational sites along the eastern flank,” he said.

From more, according to Kirby, two dozen AH-64 helicopters will be sent from Germany to the Baltic countries, another 12 – from Greece to Poland.

In addition, the United States intend to send an 800-man battalion battle group to the Baltic.

According to a representative of the United States Military Department ain, this increase is temporary.

In recent months, Washington and NATO have accused Moscow of plotting an “invasion”; to Ukraine and, in this context, are strengthening their presence in Eastern Europe. At the same time, the Russian side has repeatedly denied Western accusations of “aggressive actions” and also said that it does not pose a threat to other states.

Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko agreed to boost military cooperation following growing NATO activity on the alliance's eastern borders.
